Beat Licensing

Understand what you can do with beats purchased on Bopkit.

How Beat Licensing Works

When you purchase a beat on Bopkit, you receive a non-exclusive license to use that beat in your music. This means:

  • The producer keeps ownership of the beat and can license it to other artists
  • Your license is perpetual — it never expires as long as you follow the terms
  • Worldwide distribution — release on any major platform (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
  • You must credit the producer on all releases using the format specified in your license
  • You receive a PDF license agreement with every purchase documenting your rights

What You Cannot Do

All licenses include the following restrictions. Violating these terms may result in license termination:

  • Reselling, sublicensing, or transferring this license to another party
  • Claiming ownership or copyright of the beat/instrumental itself
  • Registering the beat (not the finished song) with any performing rights organization (PRO)
  • Using in content that promotes hate, violence, discrimination, or illegal activity
  • Creating NFTs, blockchain tokens, or AI-generated derivatives from this beat
  • Using the beat in isolation without original vocals or significant creative additions
Your License Agreement

Every beat purchase includes a personalized PDF license agreement. This document:

  • Identifies you as the licensee with your order details
  • Specifies the exact beat and license type you purchased
  • Lists all your rights and restrictions in detail
  • Serves as proof of your license if disputes arise

You can download your license PDF from your order page at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I exceed my MP3 lease limits?

If your song exceeds the limits (e.g., 100,000 streams or 2,000 sales), you need to purchase a WAV lease for that beat to continue using it legally. Your MP3 license terminates once limits are exceeded.

Can multiple people use the same beat?

Yes, because these are non-exclusive licenses. The producer can sell the same beat to multiple artists. If you want exclusive rights, contact the producer directly to negotiate an exclusive license.

Can I use the beat for commercial purposes?

Yes! Both MP3 and WAV leases allow commercial use — you can sell your finished song and earn money from streams. The difference is in the limits: MP3 has caps while WAV is unlimited.

Do I own the beat after purchasing?

No. You own a license to use the beat, not the beat itself. The producer retains copyright ownership. You own your finished song (with your vocals/additions), but not the underlying instrumental.

What if the producer deletes the beat?

Your license remains valid even if the producer removes the beat from sale. Your rights are tied to your purchase, not the beat's availability.

Can I collaborate with other artists on a song?

Yes! Your license covers songs released under your name or artist project, including collaborations. However, your collaborators cannot use the beat independently for their own separate releases — they would need their own license.

Can I register my song with ASCAP, BMI, or other PROs?

Yes, you can register your finished song (with your vocals/additions) with a performing rights organization. You cannot register the beat/instrumental itself. The producer may have their own publishing registered for the beat.

What if I get a Content ID claim on YouTube?

Some producers may have Content ID active on their beats. If you receive a claim, you can dispute it using your PDF license agreement as proof of purchase. Keep your license document accessible for this reason.

What happens if my license is terminated?

If you exceed your usage limits (MP3), you must upgrade to a WAV lease to continue distribution. If you violate any restriction, your license terminates immediately and you must remove all distributed content as soon as reasonably possible. Physical copies already sold may remain in circulation.

What if the beat contains samples?

Producers represent they have the right to license beats they sell. If copyright claims arise from uncleared samples, the producer is solely responsible. Bopkit is not liable for such claims.
